The Westlake Police Department provides 24-hour law enforcement and emergency services to all persons living, working or visiting the city. Traditional police services such as accident and crime investigation, arrests or citations of traffic and criminal law violators, assistance with interpersonal disputes, rectifying traffic and personal safety hazards are all delivered by uniformed and plainclothes officers.

Community policing functions complement the typical delivery of police services. Officers participate in a wide variety of public functions and events at businesses, schools, churches, and homes. We find that the best way to make our city safer is to partner with our citizens during occasions which do not require the exercise of actual police powers, but rather build understanding between officer and citizen. When incidents requiring police intervention arise, more cooperation and less confrontation occurs.
